Terms of Service

Welcome to Plan for Adventure, operated by Plan for Adventure LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using our website at planforadventure.com, the web application at app.planforadventure.com, the MCP server, or any related services (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Description of Service

Plan for Adventure is an AI-powered overland trip planning platform. The Service provides access to the Adventure Atlas (a curated database of GPS waypoints enriched with terrain, vehicle access, solitude, and other contextual data), trip planning tools, route computation, weather data, and AI-assisted planning through both a web interface and an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server.

2. Eligibility and Account Registration

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. You create an account by signing in through our sign-in provider, Auth0, with an email address and password, or with a supported account such as Google or Apple. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity under your account.

You agree to provide accurate information during registration and to keep your account information current. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that we reasonably believe contain false information or are being used in violation of these Terms.

3. Subscription Plans and Billing

3.1 Tiers

The Service offers three plans:

• Explorer (Free): the whole Adventure Atlas map, full place details, search and filters, and anything shared with you.
• Planner: Collections and Trips with day-by-day itineraries, importing your own files, offline packs, GPX and PDF trip sheets, sharing, saved filter presets, similar sites and route following.
• Trailblazer: everything in Planner, plus AI trip planning with your own AI assistant (through our MCP server) and importing curated sources.

3.2 Billing

Paid plans bought on our website are billed yearly through Stripe, plus any sales tax that applies. Plans renew automatically each year until you cancel.

If you subscribe through the Apple App Store or Google Play, that store handles billing, renewal, cancellation and refunds under its own terms, and you manage the subscription in your store account.

3.3 Cancellation and Refunds

You can cancel any time: in Manage subscription if you subscribed on our website, or in your store account if you subscribed through a store. Your plan stays until the end of the year you paid for; we don't give partial refunds. After it ends, your account moves to the free plan: your trips, collections and datasets stay, view-only, and offline maps and packs are turned off: we delete our copies from our servers, and the copies on your devices stop working the next time the app connects. If you think we charged you in error on our website, email us within 30 days and we'll refund that charge. If you delete your account while subscribed on our website, the subscription ends immediately and the time left is not refunded. If you subscribed through a store, cancel it in your store account.

3.4 Founding Price

The first 100 new paying members get a founding price for their first year ($45 for Planner, $75 for Trailblazer). After the first year the plan renews at the regular price ($59 or $99). A founding place is used once it is bought, including if you later cancel or are refunded.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Scrape, mirror, or systematically download the Adventure Atlas data set or any substantial portion of it, whether by automated means (bots, scripts, crawlers) or by manual bulk copying.
• Redistribute, resell, or sublicense waypoint data obtained from the Service.
• Circumvent rate limits, authentication, or access controls.
• Use the Service to transmit malware, spam, or any content that is unlawful, harmful, or infringes on third-party rights.
• Create multiple accounts to evade restrictions or abuse free-tier limits.
• Interfere with the Service's infrastructure, performance, or availability.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules, with or without prior notice.

5. Data Accuracy and Synthetic Reference Data

The Adventure Atlas aggregates data from government agencies (USFS, BLM, NPS, recreation.gov, and others), OpenStreetMap, and curated community sources. We enrich this data with terrain analysis, vehicle suitability assessments, solitude estimates, and other contextual signals using geospatial computation and publicly available reference data sets.

We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any data in the Service. Conditions on the ground change — roads wash out, land management policies shift, water sources dry up, and access restrictions are imposed or lifted without notice. Always verify conditions locally before traveling, especially for remote or off-road destinations. Carry appropriate maps, supplies, and safety equipment.

Plan for Adventure may include a small number of synthetic reference records within the Adventure Atlas for security, testing, and audit purposes. These records are filtered from all normal browsing surfaces and are not part of the public waypoint inventory. They exist solely to detect unauthorized automated access to the data set and should not be relied upon for navigation.

6. User Content and Personal Data

Certain features allow you to upload personal data (GPX files, CSV waypoints) and create trip plans. You retain ownership of content you upload. By uploading content, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display it to you within the Service.

How we handle personal data is described in our Privacy Policy (planforadventure.com/privacy). You can delete your account and everything in it at any time in the app (account menu → Delete my account), or by emailing hello@planforadventure.com from the address you sign in with.

7. Intellectual Property

The Service — including its software, design, brand assets, enrichment algorithms, and the curated compilation of Adventure Atlas data — is our property or is used under license. Government-sourced data remains in the public domain; our enrichment, curation, and presentation of that data is proprietary.

These Terms do not grant you any right to use our trademarks, logos, or brand name ("Plan for Adventure," "Adventure Atlas") without prior written consent.

8. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with third-party providers including Auth0 (sign-in), Stripe (billing), Mapbox (maps), Open-Meteo and the National Weather Service (weather), and OpenStreetMap (services search). These integrations are provided as-is. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or terms of any third-party service.

9. MCP Server and AI Integration

AI trip planning is part of the Trailblazer plan. Our MCP server lets the AI assistant you choose (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and others) use the Service on your behalf, under your account and the same rules as the web app. MCP access is subject to the same acceptable-use rules and tier restrictions as the web interface. Automated access through the MCP server must be associated with an authenticated user account and is subject to rate limits.

AI-generated trip plans, site analyses, and recommendations are informational only. We do not guarantee their accuracy or suitability for any particular purpose.

10. Limitation of Liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR $100, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOST PROFITS, OR PERSONAL INJURY ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE OR RELIANCE ON ANY DATA IT PROVIDES.

Overland travel involves inherent risks. You are solely responsible for your safety when traveling to locations identified through the Service. Plan for Adventure does not assess or guarantee the safety of any waypoint, route, or campsite.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Plan for Adventure, its owner, and its agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these Terms or for any other reason at our sole discretion. You may delete your account at any time in the app (account menu → Delete my account) or by emailing hello@planforadventure.com. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive (limitation of liability, indemnification, intellectual property) will survive termination.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the revised Terms on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you (such as an in-app banner or email to your registered address).

14. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Maricopa County, Arizona.
